Locals invited to first ever Merton Borough Mela

Merton’s fire-fighters, and the Merton Partnership, are inviting local people to have a great day out at the Borough’s first ever Mela, on Saturday, 2nd August.
Visitors can enjoy music, henna painting, head massage, crafts, a traditional jewellery and clothing bazaar, activities and games for children and a range of demonstrations and safety advice by London’s Emergency services. Entry to the event is free.
The fun includes:
- Variety of live Dance Shows such as Bollywood Dance, Bharatanatyam Indian Classical dance, Bengali folk, Irish folk and African folk dance.
- Live feat from Harvey Sahota and International renowned Rap Star ‘Controversy’ FF Stephen-Remell Coleman on the new Asian Streets re-mix of the ever popular ‘Got Mine Got Yours?’ “London Fire Brigade Rap” supported by VP Dhol Players and London’s Most Wanted DJ Naz.
- Live performances from UK Hip Hop Artist– K-RIS, Asian RNB sensation – Faze Black, Virsa Punjab Bhangra Dancers, and Whirling Dervishes.
- Free draw for prizes to be won.
- Food and drink
- Live and spectacular Hot Fat Fryer demonstration.
- Meet the Police dog and Handler
- Children’s Entertainment shows
- Children’ Puppet Show
- Free home and fire safety advice
- Free healthy food advice
- Presentations recognising Merton’s talented young people
“Though this event is about having fun, it’s also an opportunity for the Brigade and its partners from the Met Police, Merton Borough Council, Safer Merton, MVSC, MREP and local voluntary groups and charities, to meet local people and talk about making out community safer.”
Merton Borough Mela takes place on Saturday, 2nd August at The Hub, Imperial Fields, Bishopsford Road, Morden, Surrey, SM4 6BF
From 12 noon to 5pm. Admission is free.
